Debunking the Myths of Social Advertising

Today we’re kicking off a new blog series focusing on myths surrounding advertising on the social Web. We know a lot of folks are still skeptical about click through rates, lead quality and conversion rates, so we’re debunking 7 myths of social advertising, and setting the record straight.

To get the ball rolling, Nick Talarico, Director of Operations at Sibblingz, Inc — creators of the hugely popular Make a Baby app on Facebook and MySpace — helps us dispel the myth that users don’t click on ads in social networks.

While the Click-Through Rate (CTR) for most ads on social networks is somewhere south of 0.10 percent, the average CTR for Offerpal Media’s offers I-Frame is 24%. Yes, 24%. That’s because our I-Frame is an embedded part of the consumer experience, so rather than trying to distract users from what they’re doing, we actually engage with them as part of the in-game mechanics of the social web site or application. It also helps that our optimization engine knows exactly which ads are of the most interest to which users and presents relevant ad offers that are targeted to the individual consumer based on demographic, geographic and behavioral data points.

The Secret to Our CEO’s Success?

women-of-influence-videoEarlier this week, when Anu Shukla was named one of Silicon Valley’s “Women of Influence,” she was asked to explain in 10 words or less the one person, place or thing to which she attributes her success. Her answer reveals quite a bit about her success as a person and Offerpal’s success as a company:

My mom, my family, my sister, my friends…who gave me education, guidance, and taught me to question and push the boundaries. For example, if they say 10 words, could it really be 20?

Watch the video above to hear Anu’s 20-word speech, and listen to the howls of laughter she gets.
