As you might already know, Facebook recently built a mechanism enabling developers to obtain an anonymous identifier for their users, which can then be passed to third-parties such as us without inadvertently sharing the user data with anyone else. This mechanism embeds the UID in a HTTP POST body rather than in the HTTP Referrer (where it was previously embedded), ensuring that the UID cannot be seen by anybody.
Facebook is giving you until January 1st to implement the mechanism, but we highly recommend that you do so well ahead of the deadline. You can obtain a third-party identifier through either the Graph API or FQL, and implementation should require minimal effort. For more information on the necessary steps, here’s the Facebook documentation.
Once you’ve done that, as an additional security measure, we also recommend that you start using our encrypted payload to encrypt any information that you’re passing us. This is also a very simple process that can be completed in a matter of minutes. To get started, visit our Knowledge Center and follow the steps described there to display offers with our encrypted IFrame.
We fully support Facebook’s efforts to make their ecosystem safer and more secure for everyone. That’s why we’ve created an encryption device that goes above and beyond their standard mechanisms. We hope you’ll help us give your users maximum protection by committing the brief time it will take to implement our encrypted IFrame.
If you have any questions, please contact your account rep or email us.
