Now 100% Focused on Mobile App Business

Over the last year, as the mobile market has exploded, Tapjoy’s business on iOS and Android has grown right along with it, and we have established ourselves as the clear leader in discovery, engagement and monetization solutions for mobile apps. What’s more, if Gartner Group’s prediction that by 2013 there will be nearly $30 billion in global mobile app revenues is anywhere near the mark, then we are all still on the very early curve of the hockey stick.

For that reason, it is with much clarity and conviction that we announce an important decision regarding the future of Tapjoy—that in order to focus on furthering our lead in mobile innovation, we are transitioning away from the Web business, and will soon no longer provide our services for Web-based applications.

For those Web publishers currently using our platform, we will do everything we can to ensure the transition to a new provider is a completely seamless and pain free process, and we will continue to maintain all of our customer service, technical support and account management services throughout the transition.

Web-based developers will have until July 15th to complete the transition. In the meantime, please feel free to contact your account manager or email publishersupport@tapjoy.com with any questions or comments.

Remember – if you’re already building games on mobile, we’re your go-to source for app distribution, engagement advertising and virtual goods monetization through acquisition advertising, videos, incentivized and non-incentivized banners and much more.

And if you’re not already building games for mobile, well, what’s holding you back?

Announcing our new Android porting program and $5 Million Android Fund

By now, everyone’s seen the numbers:

  • 400,000 new devices activated very day
  • 36% market share
  • Nearly 4 billion total apps downloaded (with 1 billion in the last 3 months alone)

And if you’re an app developer, that’s a pretty good case for wanting to port your game to the Android platform. But then you look into the technical requirements and think about the huge variety of devices you have to code for,  and it’s enough to make you want to give up.

We’re here to help. Today we are launching a new program for game developers to port their existing apps and gaming content over to the Android platform. The program is backed by a new $5 million fund.

We’ll offer full porting and testing services to ensure the apps work on all of the leading Android handsets, and you’ll receive a free, large-scale distribution campaign for new user acquisition through our performance-based advertising network. Our ad-funded payment platform is in 80% of the top free-to-play apps on Android, so we’re capable of driving a meaningful volume of new installs.

Said Benjamin Vu, the CEO of SkyVu:

“Tapjoy’s development funds and expertise have really helped SkyVu accelerate its Android development cycles. SkyVu is excited to be bringing several new BATTLE BEARS games to Android this year. Thanks to the development funds from Tapjoy, we’re able to get to the market in record time.”

Applications are currently being considered for the Tapjoy Android Fund and porting program based on the quality of the gaming experience and the talent of its developers. Those interested in applying for the program should visit www.tapjoy.com/AndroidFund or email publishing@tapjoy.com to learn more.

Is Your Husband Cheating on You? No, He’s Playing Pretty Pet Salon.

Do you have a significant other? Does s/he spend a lot of time alone? Does it involve a mobile/tablet device? If you’ve answered yes to all of the above, lights will go off that your partner is (gasp) cheating on you! But what if that’s not the case? No phone calls, no SMS. Instead, your partner sneaks off to play Pretty Pet Salon and secretly hides the fact that s/he is bathing his panda customer. Well, that’s what happened to Katie’s husband Mike from the 107.9 show in Sacramento, CA. Instead of getting angry, she finds it absolutely hilarious, because times have changed. Some partners find it more entertaining to play mobile apps than, well…just about anything else. The truth of the matter is, this isn’t a new trend within the mobile app industry. Recent statistics show that 47% of mobile social gamers are male as compared to 53% of females and the average age is 28. So the next time your partner sneaks off with a mobile device, don’t conclude that s/he could be cheating on you. Maybe his/her alarm went off that his pig needs to make more pet points to purchase a premium good, like in Pretty Pet Salon.
